Christmas Tree Seedlings
Scott & Stewart produces Balsam Fir Plus tree seedlings. Balsam fir is still the seedling of choice for most Christmas tree producers in our area. Being Christmas tree growers ourselves, we realize the need for genetically superior, high quality seedlings; therefore, we strive to produce the highest quality seedling for our clients.
In addition, we have the capacity to grow seedlings for Christmas tree growers who wish to secure their own seed and have us produce their seedlings.
Softwood Seedlings for Reforestation Programs
Scott & Stewart is dedicated to growing quality black, red spruce, white pine and hemlock seedlings. Our seedlings are produced from improved seed purchased from the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources.
We also grow limited quantities of white pine and hemlock seedlings. Our seedlings are grown in multipot 67 and Jiffy 140 container systems.
As well, we grow large container stock for clients who want a larger tree to out-grow the competition and survive damage from the hylobius bark beetle.
These seedlings are grown for two seasons in a Jiffy 5150-35 container system. They are approximately 2 feet in height and have a root collar that measures 5 mm in diameter at time of shipping.
Small Trees, Local Shrubs and Hardwoods
Scott & Stewart produces native shrubs and small trees for both our industrial clients and home gardeners.
Some of the species include:
Alders
Red-osier Dogwood
Sumac
Bayberry
These small trees and shrubs are mostly used by utilities for planting programs that establish shrubs on utility corridors that are compatible with the overhead lines.
If you are looking for other species we can grow them too.
